I arrived in Medellin yesterday- will be here a day or two to get my rear wheel fixed and do a couple of other things..
The terrain west of the Rio Magdalena grew gradually more rugged – climbing higher. At one point the road ascended through sugar cane plantations from almost 1100m to 1500m in not many kilometres .. only to descend more steeply back down to 1000. Down the hill from La Quibra I encountered the worst surface so far- unconsolidated gravel, dust, and sticky mud in the shade.
Sugar is big- and this is very much reflected in what is available at the side of the road; not so much fruit, but lots of stickies.
